Creating an article collection allows you to specify a set of access rules that will apply to any articles found under it.
N.B. you should not treat article collections as if they are a full directory hierarchy. It is not necessary to create one unless you need to specify those rules. An article must appear in at least one article collection, though, in order to apply default rules.
